I have an admission to make... I've never considered myself funny or to be a funny person. I'm not a comedian and I've never done a stand up routine in my life and probably never will.

Probably not, but the more important question is do you need to be?

All I am talking about here is the power a little humor can have when thrown into regular everyday, usually boring, situations.  There are specific techniques, methods, manners, approaches, etc. that are GUARANTEED to work.  All you are looking to do is get past the normal "Hi my name is..." part of the conversation, because anybody can do that.

Anybody can be nice for a few minutes, but if you can create that extra jolt or that extra spark from the beginning, than you have it made.

"How A Little Humor Made Me $2,519 In One Week!"

I remember last summer I was shopping for pants. I walked into a clothing store.  After looking at what they had for sale, I realized they were pretty much the same as everywhere else I had looked. 

As I was turning to leave I met Danny the salesman.

"Everything all right?"  He asks.

"Yeah, I was just looking around, thanks though."  I reply politely as I try and hint that I am leaving and a sales pitch would be falling on deaf ears.

"Okay, I saw you looking at our pants, what did you think?"  He continues.

Having a background in sales myself, I respect sales people and I try to be helpful when I can.  So as what I am hoping would be the end of our conversation I conclusively say...

"These pants are fine, but I just wasn't that uh... impressed by any of them, but thanks anyway."

Then he said something that completely threw me off guard, it was not what he said but the way that he said that really got me.  He looks at me after I just told him that I "wasn't impressed" by their pants, and with a dead serious look he says:

"Well the ones that do tricks are in the back."

I look at him with a confused look and he is looking at me as serious as could be and I burst out with laughter.  He follows and we both had a good laugh.  He then, still smiling, very casually tells me his name is Danny and asks me what I am looking for and he explains that they will make any type I want as long as let them know what I want.

Now this is not a unique offer and I was not that impressed by their actual product, but I liked Danny.

As we continue to talk he is interjecting jokes and quips here and there that are keeping the conversation lively and enjoyable for me, after all you do not usually associate buying pants with a fun conversation.  He is not like a stand up comedian and he is not overwhelming or annoying me by trying to be funny he is just keeping me interested.

And IT WORKED!

I was really enjoying myself I as laughing, learning about different styles of pants, how Tailors At Your Service worked, etc.

So he looks at me me and says that dates are everywhere all you have to do is get them, and it is as simple as that.

Now almost every guy I know wishes he could say that, and mean it, so I had to know more about how he was "getting them", and I asked for a demonstration. 

"You think you can get a date here, right now, in this restaurant?"  I challenge.

"Excuse me ladies?"  Jason, seemingly ignoring me, asks for the attention of 3 women sitting at a table next to us.

You know how I feel about shopping, big crowded places, parking lots the size of small deserts, and all the other jazz that goes along with "Hey, you have to come help me find a ring to propose to Theresa with!"  Notice there no question mark at the end of Wilson's sentence.
